NERDS REJOICE: The largest media conglomerate in the world (Disney) bought Lucasfilm last week and immediately announced that a fresh new trilogy of Star Wars films WILL BE HAPPENING starting with an Episode VII in 2015. Yesterday it was confirmed that Oscar winning screenwriter Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine, Toy Story 3) has been hired to pen Episode VII as the film begins pre-production. No word yet on who will direct or be cast in the films but personally I am optimistic, as Hayden Christensen already ruined one trilogy and will not be allowed to ruin another.
The new triumvirate of films will reportedly focus on the rebuilding of the Republic, with an aged Luke Skywalker becoming the premier Jedi and training a new order of Jedi Knights. The series will reportedly culminate in a final confrontation between Skywalker and the Emperor. Obviously many of the overarching plotlines have yet to be imagined:

The summer of the movie nerd sadly is long gone my friends and so Cloud Atlas, Skyfall, Lincoln and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will have to suffice for the holiday season. Skyfall specifically is lookin pretty bossy though especially in this new trailer:
After 50 years of the franchise, Skyfall is already being called the ‘best Bond yet’. Daniel Craig is said to have truly stepped into his role as a more nitty-gritty James Bond, and Academy Award Winner Javier Bardem is said to shine in his role as unhinged arch-criminal Silva.
Something tells me he loses though. And Bond wins. Just a hunch. Why does Bond win all the time? Well I guess some people are just born that way. Bond seems to find out though, as we all do: that life’s greatest gift, can sometimes be a curse. Let’s take a look.

A Justice League of America film will now officially compete directly with The Avenger’s 2 in the summer of 2015. Warner Bros. green lit the project and will reportedly ramp up development on it following a decisive legal victory involving the rights to Superman. Opening the door for competing super squads of epic proportion. A CLASH OF TITANS if you will. Okay. Maybe I got a little excited there. It is looking pretty legit though as DC/Warner Bros. has made it clear they want a high caliber director at the helm. As for the cast, let’s hope they go for a little more depth than Megan Fox. Why does WB want a super-squad of it’s own? Perhaps a better question is: Why WOULDN’T they want a super-squad of their own.
Can Batman go toe-to-toe with The Hulk? Could Superman beat up Captain America? I don’t know. I’m not a rocket scientist. The two superhero teams will indeed clash at the box office in the summer of 2015, as Warner Bros. looks to sign a director and all star cast within the near future. Having had talks with The Wachowski Brothers and Ben Affleck about directing, it seems they are willing to spend a pretty penny on bringing a Hall of Justice to the big screen in top class fashion. Why are all the cool kids making movies about superhero teams these days? Because effective team synergy is a powerful thing. Let’s take a look.

The MTV Video Music Awards aired this week and did I not get the memo that we’re back to having boy bands? FFS. Thought we grew outta that one. Speaking of pop teenie type stuff along with the show aired an MTV exclusive clip of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2. Introducing the clip was the director and cast of the film, with a noticeable absence from actress Kristen Stewart (right). Hrrrmmm. Wonder what thats all about. Despite infidelity rumors (on Kristen’s behalf) actor Robert Pattinson (left) seemed in good spirits. Though the couple’s non-fictional relationship may be in dire straits at the moment their fictional relationship is quite the opposite.
For those of you who do not know The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 is the concluding film of a series of movies based on romantic novels of the same title. The series chronicles the life if a young human Bella and her romantic encounters with a vampire (Edward) and a were-wolf (Jacob). She ultimately falls deeply in love with the vampire (Edward), and marries him, which creates some mildly entertaining dramatic plot points. The focus of the series however is the deep love connection that blossoms between Bella and Edward, as one of the most important and appealing concepts of the saga is the idea that true love transcends time, as Edward is over 100 years old and yet falls deeply in love with the young human Bella.
What IS true love you ask? Why, a simple matter of synergistic pairings. Diametrically opposed inherent mindsets that spark the romantic ideal that we know as true love. Michael Fassbender has been cast as Ubisoft’s “iconic hooded hero” in an Assassin’s Creed film. Which let’s be honest sounds pretty dope. The young German actor will likely portray the original franchise character; Syrian Master Assassin, Altaïr.
“Michael Fassbender was our first choice,” said Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Paris-based Ubisoft Motion Pictures. “Michael is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor.”
With roles in critically-acclaimed movies like Shame and blockbusters such as X-Men: First Class and Prometheus, Fassbender has quickly established himself as one of the most in-demand actors around, and his casting in the Assassin’s Creed movie sends out a strong signal of intent by the recently-founded Ubisoft Motion Pictures. The film will also be produced by Fassbender’s own company, DMC Film. What does it take to become a Master Assassin? Let’s take a look.
Warner Bros. is ramping up their JLA efforts after Ben Affleck recently shot down reports that he might direct the film. The studio has reportedly reached out to The Matrix Trilogy writers’ and directors’ Andy and Lana Wachowski to take the reigns of a Justice League of America film;
“According to Moviehole, the sibling directors behind the Matrix trilogy, Speed Racer and the upcoming sci-fi epic Cloud Atlas are on the studio’s list of possible contenders to helm JLA, which was scripted by Gangster Squad’s Will Beall. The site claims the studio is “apparently jazzed with Cloud Atlas, and love that it’s as much a spectacle as it is a showcase for the immense ensemble involved, so it makes sense the W’s are under consideration. Justice League needs to be as big on character, as it does bells & whistles, and the Wachowski’s could probably offer that.”
It’s no secret that Joss Whedon put a large emphasis on “character” in The Avengers, and given the films success, it seems WB will be attempting to follow suit. Given DC’s roster, it seems like they’ll have a good shot at giving Marvel a run for it’s money. What roster? You ask? Let’s take a look.
