The Hobbit drops this week and is looking pretty solid:

Which is funny because Warner Bros. was just sued for 80$ million by the Tolkien Estate in regards to “merchandising” specifically some “gambling slots”.

Let’s not dampen the mood however as Jackson and crew seem to have put together another epic fantasy trilogy.  The films are, by subtitle,  An Unexpected Journey, The Desolation of Smaug and There and Back Again, due for theatrical release in 2012, 2013 and 2014, respectively.

Early reviews of an An Unexpected Journey have it posted at about a 74%(rotten tomatoes), which let’s be honest is a lot better than I did in high school.  Criticisms of the film mainly dwell in the realm of overdrawn plot schemes, and not living up to it’s predecessor LOTR.  Meaning that those particular reviews came from people who obviously never even read any of Tolkien’s books.

Speaking of which: for those of you who do not know The Hobbit follows titular character Bilbo Baggins as he is bamboozled by his dear friend Gandalf into accompanying a pack of dwarves on a quest to reclaim their homeland.  The novel precedes the Lord of the Rings Trilogy in timeline and essentially tells the story of how Bilbo came into possession of the Ring of Power.

Though reluctant at first, Bilbo’s journey into unfamiliar territory strips him of his proverbial “shell”, and he ultimately finds a side of himself that he didn’t know existed.  Though Bilbo’s enlightening sojourn involved goblins, orcs, dragons, and elves, the experience draws parallels to experiences many of us have in life.  Perhaps the most endearing sentiment found in the novel however is the bond that forms between humble homely hobbit Bilbo and scholarly curmudgeon wizard Gandalf.  Let’s take a look.

Iron is a chemical element with the symbol Fe (from Latin: ferrum) and atomic number 26.  It is the most common element (by mass) forming the planet Earth as a whole. It is the fourth most common element in the Earth’s crust.

And she owns a lot of that crust.  And rules it with an Iron Fist.

Don’t mess with a no nonsense contender, they can possess an Iron Fist, it can lead to you being fired or a lawsuit, and they will persist, Gina is the ultimate logistical contender.

She is the Real Iron Lady,  down to earth, concrete and Real, first and foremost known as the Iron Lady of Australia.  And she could become the richest person in the world, if China keeps buying natural resources as they have been doing in the last decade.

Intergalactic Synergy

NERDS REJOICE: The largest media conglomerate in the world (Disney) bought Lucasfilm last week and immediately announced that a fresh new trilogy of Star Wars films WILL BE HAPPENING starting with an Episode VII in 2015.  Yesterday it was confirmed that Oscar winning screenwriter Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine, Toy Story 3) has been hired to pen Episode VII as the film begins pre-production.  No word yet on who will direct or be cast in the films but personally I am optimistic, as Hayden Christensen already ruined one trilogy and will not be allowed to ruin another.

The new triumvirate of films will reportedly focus on the rebuilding of the Republic, with an aged Luke Skywalker becoming the premier Jedi and training a new order of Jedi Knights.  The series will reportedly culminate in a final confrontation between Skywalker and the Emperor.  Obviously many of the overarching plotlines have yet to be imagined:

Super Brawl

A Justice League of America film will now officially compete directly with The Avenger’s  2 in the summer of 2015.  Warner Bros. green lit the project and will reportedly ramp up development on it following a decisive legal victory involving the rights to Superman.  Opening the door for competing super squads of epic proportion.  A CLASH OF TITANS if you will.  Okay.  Maybe I got a little excited there.  It is looking pretty legit though as DC/Warner Bros. has made it clear they want a high caliber director at the helm.  As for the cast, let’s hope they go for a little more depth than Megan Fox.  Why does WB want a super-squad of it’s own?  Perhaps a better question is: Why WOULDN’T they want a super-squad of their own.

Can Batman go toe-to-toe with The Hulk? Could Superman beat up Captain America?  I don’t know.  I’m not a rocket scientist.  The two superhero teams will indeed clash at the box office in the summer of 2015, as Warner Bros. looks to sign a director and all star cast within the near future.  Having had talks with The Wachowski Brothers and Ben Affleck about directing, it seems they are willing to spend a pretty penny on bringing a Hall of Justice to the big screen in top class fashion.  Why are all the cool kids making movies about superhero teams these days?  Because effective team synergy is a powerful thing.  Let’s take a look.

She’s been to the Summit

It took her a long time, but she had made it.

She had the patience and persistence to do it.

It was with the help of her students, for she couldn’t have done it without them.

It took TEAM WORK.

She had met a woman—hell, a human being—so intense, so authoritative, so certain and yet so caring. Pat walked into a room, and everything about her—her ramrod posture, her confident smile, her piercing blue eyes and her direct manner of speaking—said, “I love what I’m doing and this is what I’m here to talk about, and you’ll pay attention while I’m talking or you’ll leave the room.”

She has always been an intense, demanding, focused, bright-blue-steely-eyed competitor who is also a very caring, family-oriented person who enjoys a great walk on the beach with the family dogs, Sally Sue and Sadie, or assembling a good ole southern home-cooked meal for her team.

Sick and Tired of this Nonsense

That’s how he was going to treat everybody under his command.

MAKE NO MISTAKE, by God he meant it.

“A tough, sturdy, valiant, weather-beaten, mettlesome, obstinate, leathern-sided, lion-hearted, generous-spirited old governor” was his description.

And they, “his children,” wouldn’t lift a hand in the end. No appreciation for his service — yeah, he wasn’t the nicest stern taskmaster around.  He had made too many enemies.  Ok, he was a downright Serious Jerk — but who doesn’t have some kind of fault.

Even though he essentially SINGLE-HANDILY had turned the colony around from a backwater, third rate fur trading post to a thriving jewel of a port, rich from the slave trade, such that the British couldn’t resist — they had to have that colony:  New Amsterdam.
