NERDS REJOICE: The largest media conglomerate in the world (Disney) bought Lucasfilm last week and immediately announced that a fresh new trilogy of Star Wars films WILL BE HAPPENING starting with an Episode VII in 2015.  Yesterday it was confirmed that Oscar winning screenwriter Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine, Toy Story 3) has been hired to pen Episode VII as the film begins pre-production.  No word yet on who will direct or be cast in the films but personally I am optimistic, as Hayden Christensen already ruined one trilogy and will not be allowed to ruin another.

The new triumvirate of films will reportedly focus on the rebuilding of the Republic, with an aged Luke Skywalker becoming the premier Jedi and training a new order of Jedi Knights.  The series will reportedly culminate in a final confrontation between Skywalker and the Emperor.  Obviously many of the overarching plotlines have yet to be imagined:

Another epic storyline with four main characters? NO WAY!  You must be saying.  Let’s take a look.

Quote1.pngAnd so the idea that individuals are predisposed to develop into one of four different configurations of attitude and action has survived for over two thousand years.  Surely this idea would have not been employed for so long, by so many people, in so many countries, had there not been some sort of widely shared recognition of its usefulness.Quote2.png  — Please Understand Me II, p. 26

Yoda is known for his legendary wisdom, his overly calm demeanor, and his mastery of the Force. Yoda was one of the most renowned and powerful Jedi Masters in galactic history.  Yoda reigned as Grand Master of the Jedi Order before, during and after the devastating Clone Wars.  In his centuries of service to the galaxy and the Force, Grand Master Yoda had a hand in the training of nearly all the Jedi in the Order, including such luminaries as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ki-Adi-Mundi and Oppo Rancisis; all of which would come to serve on the Jedi Council along with him.  Eminently calm, infamously reasonable, and profoundly resolute in his quest to rid the galaxy of the dark side, Yoda bears the mark of a Rational.  Indeed Yoda knows all too well as all Rationals do; that knowledge is power.

“No! Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try.”  — Yoda

Obi-Wan Kenobi, later known as Ben Kenobi during his exile, was a legendary Jedi Master who played a significant role in the fate of the galaxy during the waning days of the Galactic Republic.  He was most known for his role as mentor and guardian to Anakin and Luke Skywalker, training both in the ways of the Force. His long and arduous career with the Jedi Force ended in solitude on Tantooine.  Highly dependable, decidedly stoic, and deeply concerned with morality, Obi Wan is a steadfast Guardian.  Indeed Kenobi knows, as all Guardians do, that duty calls.

Why do I get the feeling you’re going to be the death of me?” — Obi-Wan Kenobi to Anakin Skywalker

Luke Skywalker was a legendary war hero and Jedi who helped defeat the Galactic Empire in the Galactic Civil War and helped found the New Republic, as well as the New Jedi Order.  Luke is known for his positive, altruistic and empathic mentality.  Enthusiastic, intuitive, and mystical in his beliefs Luke Skywalker is a powerful Idealist.  Indeed Luke knows, as all Idealist’s do, that a loving heart is the truest wisdom.

“Your thoughts betray you father, there is good in you.  I can FEEL it.” Luke Skywalker

Han Solo was a Human smuggler from the manufacturing planet Corellia.  Raised on the crew of a ship, Solo has a cynical yet realistic view of the universe.  Most known for his rash, bold, and results-oriented behavior, Solo’s primary concern is himself (hence the name).  After acquiring his prize ship the Millenium Falcon, Solo became known as one of the best smugglers in the galaxy.  Impulsive, adaptable, and stimulation seeking Han Solo is a blazing Artisan.  Indeed Solo, like any other Artisan, simply does what works.

Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.” — Han Solo

UPDATE:

Word on the streets is that Disney is highly considering resurrecting iconic villain Darth Vader for the new trilogy, saying “he’s an integral part of the franchise.  Replacing him is virtually impossible.”  Let’s hope they go for more of a James Earl Jones approach than a Hayden Christensen one.  Because let’s be honest.  That didn’t work out.
