Deductive Duo

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows opened this past weekend to an underwhelming box-office presence and mixed but positive reviews.  Warner Bros. was already reeling from a horrendous debut of its ensemble holiday rom-com New years eve proving once and for all that no one should ever make ensemble holiday rom-com’s of any kind.  Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows still ranked #1 at the weekend box office leading Hollywood to believe that people are cramming all of their holiday shopping in rather than seeing movies.  Most criticisms of the film arose mainly from it’s slight affinity for senseless action, and Robert Downey Jr. being an ex-coke-head-hooker-junkie portraying one of the most beloved literary intellectuals of all time.  Sir Arthur Conan Doyle‘s most infamous and cunning villain Professor James Moriarty serves as the primary antagonist in the film and does a great job at that.  Indeed the film becomes a very intriguing battle between two powerful intellectuals (Inventor vs. Mastermind), culminating in a deadly chess match.  Despite being a former cocaine addict, Robert Downey Jr. actually does quite well in portraying Sherlock Holmes, as Holmes was actually a bit of a cocaine addict himself.  Downey said he had researched the role much more this time around, further bridging the gap between him being a blazing Artisan portraying a brilliant Rational.  Criticisms aside Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is packed with action, romance, bromance, intellectualism, plenty of pipe-smoking, deadly chess matches, and smelly french gypsies so let’s go ahead and take a look at the dynamic deductive duo of Holmes and Watson.

Sherlock Holmes is a London-based private detective world renowned for his astute logical reasoning, his skills in the art of disguise, and his use of forensic science to solve cases.  Holmes prides himself on his ability to successfully draw large conclusions from minuscule observations.  Holmes is described by his dear friend Watson as ‘Bohemian‘: a very eccentric man “with no regard for contemporary standards“.  “What appears to others as chaos, however, is to Holmes a wealth of useful information.”  Indeed Holmes finds solving complex problems highly stimulating, and has an insatiable hunger for knowledge.  Certainly Sherlock Holmesinnovative attitude causes him to bend the truth and rules quite often, all of course on behalf of solving cases.  While Holmes’ demeanor often comes across as that of a distant or cold intellectual, while in the midst of an interesting adventure Holmes is capable of remarkable passion and can even display a flair for showmanship.  Highly eccentric, extremely intellectual, possessing an innovative attitude and entrepreneurial spirit Sherlock Holmes is the quintessential Inventor Rational.  Indeed Holmes‘ often relies on his talent for improvisation and expedient action, as do most Inventors, a habit that often gets him into trouble.  Not to worry though, as Inventors like Holmes’ entrepreneurial spirit often miraculously gets them out of the jams they put themselves in.  However, so does his dear friend Watson.

Doctor John H. Watson is Holmes’ faithful companion and trusty sidekick, and also Holmesdearest and oldest friend.  Watson chronicles the majority of Holmes’ professional ventures, and is the narrator in most of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle‘s novels.  Watson is described as a capable and brave companion to Holmes, while also serving as a skilled sharpshooter and a talented doctor and surgeon.  Though the two companions have a close relationship, Holmes’ often appears to abuse Watson and take him for granted.  Watson often attempts to solve crimes on his own using Holmes’ method, with moderate success.  Though Watson never masters Holmes’ deductive methods, he is astute enough to follow his good friends line of reasoning.  Watson essentially serves as solid and consistent moral and physical support for his dear friend Sherlock Holmes.  Extremely dependable, highly attentive, and overwhelmingly patient serving as a great source of strength and stability for Holmes Doctor John Watson is undoubtedly an Inspector Guardian.  Indeed Watson puts up with quite a bit from his dear friend Sherlock Holmes, but offers thoroughness, detail, legality, and order to compliment the innovative talents of his esteemed colleague.

Guardians are comfortable with the Rationals’ skeptical attitude and obsession with their work, which seem very much like their own pessimism and sense of duty; they often admire the NTs ingenuity, which is such a reach from their own reliance on by-the-book routine.    Please Understand Me II, p. 227-228

Sherlock Holmes

Quote1.png Holmes was a man of habits… and I had become one of them… a comrade… upon whose nerve he could place some reliance… a whetstone for his mind. I stimulated him… If I irritated him by a certain methodical slowness in my mentality, that irritation served only to make his own flame-like intuitions and impressions flash up the more vividly and swiftly. Such was my humble role in our alliance.Quote2.png

Logistical Salvation

Kourtney and Kim Take New York Season 2 premiered last night and oh how sweet it is.  The Kardashian Family (especially Kim) will be looking for ALL SORTS of PR after meeting with considerable public backlash regarding Kim’s divorce to obscure athlete and general idiot Kris Humphries.  The family of course has since launched a damage-control campaign, the cornerstone of which will be Kourtney and Kim take New York.  According to sources the show will be heavily portraying Kris (Humphries) as a villain, as Kris (Jenner) is an executive producer of the show itself and therefore can doctor it’s content however she wants.  God forbid after making 18 million dollars off of the wedding Kim couldn’t even suffer through more than 72 days of a bad marriage.  Whereas most people suffer through a bad marriage their entire lives.  For free.  If someone offered you 18 million to marry an idiot would you do it?  Of course you would.  Let’s be honest.  All you have to do is ignore everything he/she says.  With 18 million you could even buy them a separate house and you wouldn’t even have to ever say a single word to them.  After typing Kim as a Promoter and being presented with some pretty solid arguments to the contrary let’s take a closer and more in-depth look at Kim Kardashian and her dear and beloved sister Kourtney Kardashian.

Kimberly Noel Kardashian was born October 21 1980 the daughter of attorney Robert Kardashian and his wife Kris Kardashian.  Her father was of Armenian descent, her mother Dutch-Scottish.  Kim led a pretty standard young Los Angeles socialite life until tragedy struck and her father died of esophageal cancer in 2003 at the age of 59.  Kim is a self-described obsessive-compulsive neat freak and is actually very shy and timid in large groups.  While much of her behavior comes off as being a Promoter, this is no doubt through the guidance of her overbearing and strong-willed Promoter Artisan mother Kris Jenner.  Indeed Kim has essentially done exactly what she has been told, in order for Kris to create an ’empire’ with.  Kim cares deeply about her family, and takes great pride in protecting the health and welfare of those she cares about.  Self-admittedly uptight, extremely hard-working, actually quite shy, and very loving of her family Kim Kardashian is undoubtedly a Protector Guardian.

Kourtney Mary Kardashian was born of the same ilk of her dear sister a year earlier.  The oldest of the Kardashian children, Kourtney was the one who kept them all in line.  Indeed Kourtney is the most serious of all the Kardashian kids, and can sometimes seem cold and unforgiving.  Earnest, attentive, dedicated, and highly strict and thorough, Kourtney Kardashian is undoubtedly an Inspector Guardian.  Certainly Kourtney can seem like a downright b*tch sometimes, but let’s not hold it against her.

Artisan parents have little or no difficulty rearing Guardian children.  They enjoy encouraging their Guardian children to get into all sorts of sports and arts and adventures, hoping to help loosen them up and show them that life is for living here and now.  With such modeling on how to have fun Guardian children can overcome their natural caution and seriousness, and can thrive both at home and school.  There is a danger that highly aggressive Artisan parents can communicate dissatisfaction with their Guardian child’s over concerned attitude, letting it be known that they aren’t happy with a goody-goody child of either gender—teasing them about being a mama’s boy or a little pris.  If SP parents expect (or demand) boldness and impetuosity from their SJ children, they will only frighten or inhibit them, and teach them they are a failure.  Fortunately, it is unusual for both parents to be Artisans, and quite usual for the other parent to be a Guardian.  So the Guardian child often has the best of both worlds: someone to show the way to joy, and someone to show the way of duty.  Please Understand Me II, p. 277

Portraying Kris (Humphries) as a villain seems to be right on schedule, as the first episode ends with him moving out.  Kourtney and Kim take New York airs every Sunday @ 10/9c on the E! network.

Quote1.png I love my sisters.  Kourtney is the most loyal and responsible person I know and Khloe definitely has the biggest heart.Quote2.png

Of the Greatest Generation

He never wanted to talk about what he had seen.

He was typical of his generation, they just didn’t talk about it.

That is strange because he made a good living by talking. Or more accurately, reporting what he thought. He was a writer above all else. He was probably the most famous curmudgeon of all time.

He would complain. Like clockwork. For nigh thirty three years, every week, for a few minutes. Probably the best and funniest complainer on American TV.

Solid Steel Logistics

Russel Crowe and Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire) allegedly will go toe-to-toe in Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot Man of Steel.  Russel Crowe is playing Jor-El (Superman’s father) and Michael Shannon is playing Kryptonian villain General Zod.  And apparently, Supermans dad smokes cigarettes.  Crowe tweeted about the fight saying Michael Shannon “is very hard to put down”.  While the above picture looks pretty decent, I fear that the film most certainly will not be, seeing as that it is being directed by Zack Snyder.  Zack Snyder has indeed botched several other films, and is clearly out of his league here.  Let’s however give the poor man the benefit of the doubt, and proceed with analyzing the Last Son of Krypton’s temperament.

Superman is the quintessential comic book hero and a dearly beloved cultural icon.  Super-dependable, outstandingly dutiful, and extremely persevering, the Big Blue Boyscout is undoubtedly an Inspector Guardian.  Characterized by his indestructible physicality and strict code of ethicsSuperman knows that with great power comes great responsibility.  Indeed Superman adheres to the idea that actions speak louder than words, and takes the responsibility of defending Earth and its inhabitants very seriously.

Man of Steel will reportedly NOT BE connected with a Justice League Universe, despite Warner Bros. saying that a JLA film is the studios top priority.  Some ‘in the bizz’ of course say that this is because the studio thinks Snyder helming the project is a huge risk, after the god-awful job he did on Sucker Punch.  Snyder, who has directed other comic-book adaptations like 300, is an idiot, and has an aggregate rottentomatoes score of 54%.  Meaning that if directing movies is like taking a class, he failed.  Clearly Warner Bros. figured out that they hired a moron to reboot the most iconic superhero of all time and tried to damage control by disconnecting the project from their future aspirations (a JLA film).  Who knows, this imbecile could get REALLY lucky and turn out a DECENT film, in which case Warner Bros. would probably change their mind and use the film as solid footing for a JLA movie.  Solid footing that they desperately need.  Man of Steel‘s release date has been pushed back to Summer 2013.
