Harry Potter 6

J.K. Rowling will pen her first screen-play for a Harry Potter spin-off film series based on a fictional piece of literature entitled Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.  The series’ plot will revolve around one of Rowling’s favorite characters, Newt Scamander.

The Harry Potter Franchise lasted more than a decade and became the highest-grossing film series of all time, pulling in $7.7 billion internationally.

Quote1Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for seventeen years, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world,” said Rowling. “The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt’s story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry’s gets underway.Quote2 —  J.K. Rowling

And since Warner Bros. hired Zack Snyder to direct the segway film into their superhero ensemble team-up, they’re gonna need all the extra revenue they can get their hands on.

Ben Affleck will portray the Caped Crusader in Zack Snyder’s Superman vs. Batman.  Though Affleck was Oscar snubbed this year as a director, the film he directed won Best Picture.

And let’s be honest, when it comes to directing films, Snyder is going to need all of the help he can get.

54.6% mean rottentomatoes score

Whereas Ben’s is 94.6%as a director.

“We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some” said Greg Silverman, President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production atWarner Bros. earlier today. “His outstanding career is a testament to his talent and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character.”

“Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman,” added director Snyder. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”

“We are so thrilled that Ben is continuing Warner Bros.’ remarkable legacy with the character of Batman,” continued Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution President Sue Kroll. He is a tremendously gifted actor who will make this role his own in this already much-anticipated pairing of these two beloved heroes.”

Warner Bros. has a longstanding relationship with Affleck. His most recent hit for the studio was 2012’s Argo, which won Best Picture at this year’s Academy Awards. Affleck’s next directorial effort, Live By Night, will also be produced by Warner.

The film will be penned by Snyder and Man of Steel screenwriter David S. Goyer, and is currently slated to open worldwide on July 17, 2015. The sequel will reunite Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill, Laurence Fishburne, Amy Adams and Diane Lane.

Man of Steel has taken in more than $630 million at the worldwide box office to date.

UPDATE:

Superman Vs. Batman will film in Detroit, Michigan.

Disney’s D23 EXPO this past weekend teased a multitude of possibilities including an entire Star Wars theme park.  Star Wars Land will be added to Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, FL., but will likely not open until 2018.

Star Wars Episode VII‘s script apparently is still being heavily doctored but the film will start shooting in 2014.  Casting news thus far has been slim; but actor Ian McDiarmid has been confirmed recast as Senator Palpatine despite that characters untimely demise.  Palapatine did have an apprentice however, which many think will serve as one of the main villains in the film.  The 7th installment will focus on the offspring of Han Solo and Princess Leia.

When the Wolverine is fighting ninja’s, it’s pretty hard to have a bad time:

Quote1This movie will really get to Wolverine’s core—so—fingers crossed that we’ve done it this time.  I’m pretty confident we have.Quote2 — Hugh Jackman

Director James Mangold is looking to delve more into Wolverine’s character; his résumé includes: Girl, Interrupted, Walk the Line and 3:10 to Yuma, so we should be good on that.  An “actor’s director”, @mang0ld knows Wolverine is a classic Anti-hero: a “superhero” with very human flaws foils and fables just like the rest of us.  Marvel’s Canadian Berserker will be seeking cinematic redemption after his last solo film X-Men Origins:Wolverine got a 38% rottentomatoes score.  Wow.  I wonder if Zack Snyder directed it.

Academy Award #bestactor Jamie Foxx is looking pretty OG triple as deranged electomancer Max Dillon a.k.a. Electro.  Though not an in-house Marvel Production, Sony Pictures has seen wild success with @therealstanlee’s coveted Web-Slinger franchise.  Save perhaps when they cast Eric Forman as afflicted bruiser Eddie Brock a.k.a. Venom.  Which was a sub-optimal move, one might say.  Kind of  like the cinematic blunder known as Sucker Punch directed by who other than rampant herpaderp nub-scrub Zack Snyder.  #LOLUMADBRO?!?!

Quote1.png“It’s a couple hours of make-up, but it’s really so much fun,” Jamie Foxx on being Electro,“It’s part of a remarkable legacy: Spider-Man.  I mean, when you’re growing up as a kid, that’s everything. So to be able to be in that is just amazing–the producers wanted something for the future.  They wanted to have it more grounded and not as “comic-bookie”, so it won’t be green and yellow.  They wanted to try new things in the script.  This villain (@Electro) is for  the first time written really, really well,” he continued. “[Star] Andrew Garfield and [director] Marc Webb both commented on how great the script is, so it should be an exciting time.   “I’m just waiting to get to Comic-Con and see how people respond to it.Quote2.png — Jamie Foxx

DC vs marvel artisan

Zack Snyder may be a bad story-teller, but in all fairness is a talented cinematographer.  Luckily enough for us, Christopher Nolan is the kind of guy that would start trolling a baddie if they are bad.  Which let’s be honest if you are dealing with Zack Snyderthat is going to be the case more often than not.

#TROLOLOLOL.  Disney finally bought itself out of Marvel’s Paramount contract, but is still paying 8% and 9% royalties on grosses $1,511,757,910 (The Avengers)  and $1,147,575,931 (Iron Man 3respectively.  Granting Paramount roughly 200$mill without breaking a sweat.  Or literally even doing anything.  Thor: The Dark World however: will be Marvel Studios’ first foot-loose and fancy-free “in-house” project.  With a little bit of wiggle-roomMarvel has already started writing up scripts for some of it’s most recently re-acquired intellectual property most notably: BladePunisherDaredevilGhostrider, and Doctor Strange.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is looking pretty boss:

Catching Fire protagonist Jennifer Lawrence a.k.a. Jay-Law as she is known on the streets SYGU’ed pretty hard this year at the 85th Annual Academy Awards taking home Best Actress for her critically acclaimed portrayal of a beautifully flawed Tiffany in mental-health narrative Silver Linings Playbook.   At the tender age of 22, #JLAW became the second youngest actress of all-time to take home the Trophy.  Let’s just say this, folks.  She’s no Zack Snyder.

Marvel’s promise to “keep taking risks” creatively into it’s Phase Two is already paying off, as relatively untested director Shane Black’s Iron Man 3 crushed it at the box-office AND with critics.  Clinching the second highest domestic opening ever, and pulling in a gross $1,111,096,000 and rocking a 9/10 on IGN, Iron Man 3 is only Black’s second film as a director.  Marvel Studios seems to have a knack for boldly pulling creative gem’s out of nowhere, like they did with Joss Whedon.

NOW IM NOT A MATHEMATICIAN OR ANYTHING: but Shane Black’s average rottentomatoes score as a director with only two films turned out to be 80.5%.  Meaning that if making movies were like high-school, Black got a B.  Pretty impressive.  Equally not impressive: one could argue, is Zack Snyder’s average rottentomatoes score as a director with 5 films at 54.4%.  Meaning that if making movies were like high-school, Snyder failed.  LOLUMADBRO?!?

Righetous Nobility 3

Man of Steel might literally “set the tone” for a linear cinematic DC Universe, as Empire Magazine reports that Warner Bros. will want Zack Snyder to direct Justice League: given Man of Steel’s success at the box office.

Which quite frankly makes me question if  WB executives even took the time to SEE the film they made with Snyder less than two years ago, entitled: you guessed it, Sucker Punch (23%).  Trololol.

In related superhero arms race” news, Thor: The Dark World released a pretty bossy one-sheet this week along with it’s first trailer:

With the “Nolan Treatment” sweeping across hollywood: everyone is now going for darker, grittier, and more grounded stuff.  And thus we have Wolverine wielding a samurai sword:

Jackman and Co. will be trying to seperate itself from the flop that was X-men Origins: Wolverine, a blunder that even got a good Magneto project cancelled.  Director James Mangold is relatively unknown, but Jackman seems pretty pumped about going in depth with his favorite beserker.  Let’s do the same.
