JLA - 2

Justice League seems to be in more hot water as WB execs have reportedly trashed Will Beall’s script with several sources claiming “it’s terrible”:

Quote1I’ve now heard from multiple sources that the Will Beall script for Justice League has been scrapped.  The story from each source is the same: it’s terrible.  Some sources seem to think the whole movie is going to fall apart and never happen, while some believe that Warner Bros will keep moving forward, unwilling to lose the superhero arms race.Quote2

WHOOPSY DAISIES.  I’m not a mathematician or anything but aren’t they already LOSING the “superhero arms race”?

Seeing as The Avengers will assemble at the 85th Annual Academy Awards next week to present an award, while the Justice League doesn’t even exist yet?

Justice League’s saving grace may just be this film:

If Snyder dropped the ball however, WB is screwed.

While these superhero teams may be fictional, they express an extremely important idea: that people are fundamentally different from one another, and that that is a GOOD thing.  Let’s take a look.

A Justice League of America film will now officially compete directly with The Avenger’s  2 in the summer of 2015.  Warner Bros. green lit the project and will reportedly ramp up development on it following a decisive legal victory involving the rights to Superman.  Opening the door for competing super squads of epic proportion.  A CLASH OF TITANS if you will.  Okay.  Maybe I got a little excited there.  It is looking pretty legit though as DC/Warner Bros. has made it clear they want a high caliber director at the helm.  As for the cast, let’s hope they go for a little more depth than Megan Fox.  Why does WB want a super-squad of it’s own?  Perhaps a better question is: Why WOULDN’T they want a super-squad of their own.

Can Batman go toe-to-toe with The Hulk? Could Superman beat up Captain America?  I don’t know.  I’m not a rocket scientist.  The two superhero teams will indeed clash at the box office in the summer of 2015, as Warner Bros. looks to sign a director and all star cast within the near future.  Having had talks with The Wachowski Brothers and Ben Affleck about directing, it seems they are willing to spend a pretty penny on bringing a Hall of Justice to the big screen in top class fashion.  Why are all the cool kids making movies about superhero teams these days?  Because effective team synergy is a powerful thing.  Let’s take a look.

Symbiotic Justice

Warner Bros. is ramping up their JLA efforts after Ben Affleck recently shot down reports that he might direct the film.  The studio has reportedly reached out to The Matrix Trilogy writers’ and directors’ Andy and Lana Wachowski to take the reigns of a Justice League of America film;

“According to Moviehole, the sibling directors behind the Matrix trilogy, Speed Racer and the upcoming sci-fi epic Cloud Atlas are on the studio’s list of possible contenders to helm JLA, which was scripted by Gangster Squad’s Will Beall. The site claims the studio is “apparently jazzed with Cloud Atlas, and love that it’s as much a spectacle as it is a showcase for the immense ensemble involved, so it makes sense the W’s are under consideration. Justice League needs to be as big on character, as it does bells & whistles, and the Wachowski’s could probably offer that.”

It’s no secret that Joss Whedon put a large emphasis on “character” in The Avengers, and given the films success, it seems WB will be attempting to follow suit.  Given DC’s roster, it seems like they’ll have a good shot at giving Marvel a run for it’s money.  What roster?  You ask?  Let’s take a look.

Ben Affleck may direct a Justice League of America film as he has reportedly been sent a script by Warner Bros.: “Affleck is the only candidate who’s been sent Will Beall’s Justice League script.”  The Bostonian actor/writer/producer/director has recently only directed movies that he also stars in.  Leading some to believe that he might even don some superhero tights if he takes the project on.  Sources add that the JLA movie would be slated for summer 2015, meaning it would go toe-to-toe against it’s direct competitor The Avengers 2.  Speaking of The Avengers 2: Joss Whedon has signed on to write and direct the film, as well as an Avenger’s TV show of some kind for ABC.  Though Affleck’s camp is trying to downplay the news story; Warner Bros. does well for itself to put the idea out there that a JLA film is indeed happening and all they need now is a Director.  Why does Warner Bros. want a JLA film so badly?  Why.  Because anyone who’s anyone has their own well-balanced Super-Squad.  Super-Squad, you ask?  Let’s take a look.

Quote1.pngPeople are different in fundamental ways.  They want different things ; they have different motives, purposes, aims, values, needs, drives, impulses, urges.  Nothing is more fundamental than that.  They believe differently, they think, cognize, conceptualize, perceive, understand, comprehend, and cogitate differently.  And of course, manners of acting and emoting, governed as they are by wants and beliefs, follow suit and differ radically among people.Quote2.png

Strategic Bloodthirst

The brutal yet delightful showdown between Marvel and DC rages on as Warner Bros. execs are scrambling to make some moves seeing as they have to sit back and watch The Avengers become a worldwide box office juggernaut (1.4$ billion) while it boasts a formidable critical reception(93%).  Warner Bros. president and CEO Jeff Robinov and company have their work cut our for them as sources say they are currently spit-balling ferociously to figure out how to put a successful and high-caliber Justice League of America franchise together.  A major factor in accomplishing such a feat involves wooing and recruiting  big boss-man randy savage Christopher Nolan to spearhead what would essentially be a “JLA initiative”re-invigorating Warner Bros’ stake in Hollywood.

High ups in the Warner Brother roster even openly admitted that Marvel/Disney is doing a much better job than they are:

Quote1.pngSources indicate that the execs now realize they need to hire creatives that genuinely understand the characters the way Joss Whedon was comfortable with The AvengersQuote2.png

If these people just knew what was up with the Four Basic Personality Types, maybe they’d have a viable Super-quad right now.

DC/ Warner Bros. however is still in the fight as it has yet to unleash the epic dope sauce-ee-ness that will be The Dark Knight Rises.  Other than that though, they indeed better start making some moves, as Marvel/Disney continues to put itself in a position to dominate Hollywood’s lucrative box-office.

Speaking of Hollywood dominance for those of you silly gooses who aren’t well-versed, the The Avengers Easter Egg post-credits scene revealed that the next major villain for Earth’s Mightiest hero’s will be none other than the Mad Titan himself, Thanos the Overmaster.  A Bloodthirsty Intergalactic General on a mission to rid the universe of existence, if Thanos is conceived and casted correctly; he could serve as Marvel’s ultimate supervillain.

Who is Marvel’s God of War you ask? A character based off of the Greek God of Death?  Let’s take a look.

A sh*t ton of movie nerd news has hit the fan so to speak and clearly I’m not very good at sugar coating stuff so I’ll just give it to you straight.  Seemingly in response to Marvel’s The Avengers already climbing to the third highest worldwide grossing movie spot of all time at about 1.4 billion dollars, cinematic rivals Warner Bros. Entertainment have hired scribe Will Beall to pen a script for a Justice League of America film in order to directly compete with Marvel Studios’ current grip-hold on the booming superhero movie industry.  Though Warner Bros. Entertainment is significantly behind the 8-ball in creating and establishing major characters in a linear DC Universe, they do indeed have The Dark Knight Rises opening July 20, 2012 to give The Avengers a run for its money.  With Christopher Nolan’s swan song to the batman franchise approaching, Warner Bros. is now desperate to throw together some high-caliber franchises in order to stay in direct competition with Marvel.  And they will have their work cut out for them as Disney CEO Bob Iger recently confirmed that an Avengers sequel will indeed be happening after Iron Man 3, Thor 2, and Captain America 2 provide us audience folk even more back-story in the Marvel Universe.  Speaking of such a universe sources say that a Black Panther film will be Marvel’s next solo superhero flick after Captain America 2 drops in April of 2014IN RELATED MOVIE NERD NEWS Fox Studios recently registered the name Days of future Past, which is a classic X-men comic plot-line, in which a dystopian alternative future has mutants incarcerated in internment camps.

So far it seems like Marvel indeed has the upper hand in being able to pump out blockbuster movie franchises, so Warner Bros. is trying to throw together a Justice League film in hopes of being able to hang with the big boys.  They have yet to establish their major characters though, as The Dark Knight Rises will likely not take place in the same universe as a JLA film, and neither will the upcoming Man of Steel.  Leaving Warner Bros. only with their epic fail Green Lantern to have established characters in JLA continuity.  Given their desperation however lets assume that they will pay that screenwriter to slop in either Christian Bales’ Batman or Henry Cavill’s Superman knowing that they have Ryan Reynolds’ Green Lantern.  Thus all they would need is a solid Wonder Woman and BAM.  The four basic personality typesAnother SuperSquad that is representative of THE FOUR BASIC PERSONALITY TYPES?!?! NO WAY!!  You must be saying.  Well.  Lets take a look. Continue reading Super Brawl
