Jubei Kibagami

Jubei is a ronin during the Tokugawa Shogunate in Edo, Japan.

“If your hands are so empty, will you hold this? Yes. They’re a poor, small clan. Trying to swindle 300 ryo for a sword is asking too much. Looks like a nasty storm’s brewing… can’t waste my time here!” — Jubei Kibagami

“The road’s out and I had to make a detour, but now I’m lost. Can you tell me how to get to Kakio? That’s not nice… no, just thinking… about your body. Your body can’t be rock hard everywhere! Let’s go!” — Jubei Kibagami

“Who was that freak? *Forget it. I don’t want to see him again, anyway. I’m Jubei. Jubei Kibagami. Are you all right? Hey… I know the way now, so I’m good… ow… okay, I got it. Let’s call it a draw. That’s brutal. If we keep this up, one of us is going to die. There’s no reason we should kill each other. If you’re not going to end this… I will!” — Jubei Kibagami

“Seems that way. What’s wrong, monster? Your skin’s starting to crumble! Splendid!” — Jubei Kibagami

“You’re joking. Who’d want to fight a monster like him again? No place in particular. You?” — Jubei Kibagami

Kagero

“You intend to leave me behind, Lord Hanza? While our lord is away from his domain, my services are not needed. Until he returns… I am one of the Kouga Ninja! With all of you going out on this suicide mission, there is no way I can sit here and wait all alone!”

“I’m grateful to you. I’m Kagero of the Koga ninja. It’s none of your concern! The town of Kakio is to the west. This is where we go our separate ways.”

“Kagero of the Koga, sir. Twenty ninja led by Hanza attempted to infiltrate Shimoda a while ago. They were wiped out. A very formidable opponent. Beyond that, I cannot say. Yes.”

Dakuan

“Your sword flew swift as the wind itself and slashed your enemy like a cyclone’s touch. He was no match for you. Why don’t you join me? Your skills will be of great help to me to fight the likes of him. You’ll have to. They won’t leave you alone. You just killed one of the Eight Demons of Kimon. You didn’t beat him by yourself, though. That Koga kunoichi uses an interesting technique.”

The Kouga Ninja

“What is it? Sir, my scout saw a strange group of men ride toward Shimoda Village late last night. It might have something to do with the plague so I came to tell you, Chamberlain. Meaning what? That they spread a plague as they passed through the village? Ridiculous! Why would they do that? Something’s fishy. Let it go. On second thought, we can’t. This is the order to all of you Kouga Ninja.”

“Go to Shimoda Village and find out what really happened. Sir! But if any of your people get infected… understood, sir. The first group will follow the Shirakawa River from the north. The second will cross Taro Pass from the west. You’ll reach Shimoda Village in about an hour. Understand? Hikoza saw them. They were only eight. No match for us. Our real enemy is this plague. Yes, that’s true.”

“Kagero… you have your own duties, don’t you? Poison tasting is very important. Don’t forget that. I cannot take you with us.”

“Kagero’s gotten even more beautiful. All the more reason to pity her. She must hate her destiny. Enough. Where are Hikoza and the others? They were right behind us. I’ll have a look. Hey, what are you doing? Wh-what the…?! There! Shit! Kagero, report this to the chamberlain! Go now!”

“Who is it? What’s wrong? Really? Who killed them? Useless, all of them. And you’re the only survivor? Until we learn who he is and what he’s up to, we can’t risk sending men to that plague village. The first task is to go back and find out. We’ll figure out what to do later. Now go…”

The Seven Devils of Kimon

“You’ll live a little longer if you just stay quiet. Either way’s fine by me. Doing a dead girl would be fun, too. That’s better. I’m busy here. Get lost! Didn’t you hear me? I thought I told you to get out of here! Forget it. Once I get rid of this meddler, I’ll take my time torturing you to death. What’s wrong? Sorry you didn’t run when I told you to?”

“Tessai! You are indeed a sorry sight. But no need to pursue him so. I’ll kill him! I won’t allow it. Don’t forget our mission. Consider my word as Lord Gemma’s order. Understood? We’re leaving.”

“No, you’re going the wrong way. The river to Hell… …is THIS way! Not yet. I still owe you. ‘One of us?’ Like hell! Strange skill you have. But it can’t hurt this body of mine. Die!”

“Lord Gemma. All is proceeding as planned. It arrives from the Dark Shogun by six tomorrow evening. Very well. Send him this message: ‘We return in three days. There’s nothing to worry about.’ At once. Isn’t Tessai back yet? Benisato went to look for him. For now, it’s just the two of us. Yurimaru… I’ve always loved you.”

“Don’t push your luck, Zakuro. You’re of no interest to me. Now, stay on the lookout. So, it’s true. May your dreams be pleasant ones in Lord Gemma’s arms. However, Yurimaru, Lord Gemma makes love to both men and women. Did you know that he makes love to Benisato? Apparently not.”

“Where are you headed?”

Edo, Japan

“We lost 300 ryo, thanks to your meddling. We won’t go back empty-handed. Is it true they hired you for only 20 ryo? The sword we stole was a treasure given to them by the Shogun. And they’ll only pay twenty to get it back? Ridiculous! Shut up, you bastard!”

“Oh, thank you. That was one hell of a storm! You got that right! My roof got blown off and scared my wife so bad that she went into labor. It was really something. That’s your seventh kid, right? Nope, the ninth. Whoa! You must really love your wife! Isn’t that Sakichi’s daughter from Shimoda village? What’s with her? What’s wrong? Dead… everybody’s dead. D-dead?! Plague… because of the plague… M-m-my God! Do not get beyond this point! This road’s closed until the plague is over. Plague?! I’m out of here!”
