I grew up in rural Missouri so scenes like a field of fireflies and a sky bright with stars were a familiar treat. Very awesome indeed! I like a more city type existence in many ways, but I cherish the memories of those things and appreciate even more now the small glimpses I get of them again. In my current place on a second story, although way different than what I am used to, I have a good number of windows, and so at night laying on my bed I have a view of the sky that is uninhibited by anything else. I love it!

Hint: (... ah it's ABSTRACT hint)... One might view the Twitter protocol as real-time distribution of reference with semantics. How does one use a "Meta Google" (that old Delphi scheme -- in the 60's and 70's) scheme to direct that attention to get attention?

I have a very incomplete paper on "Xemes" that I wrote long before Susan recently gave her talk about Memes and "temes" -- or her earlier talk on Consciousness.

um....I think I need a hint for the hint, lol! I'm not familiar enough with old programming languages or programming in general to know exactly what a "distribution of reference" is (or what sort of analogy you're making/drawing). What do you mean exactly when you say "direct that attention to get attention"....because it sounds rather tactical "Who" is getting all the Twitters' attention? And for what reason....to transmit more information?

I'll have to post again later....I have to watch the Blackmore video, read the book, and look over your pages on complexity. I read over the paper on Xemes. Sounds really interesting....don't know if I fully understand it all....but in any case it gives me a nice "rule of thumb" system to help me to "summarize" the world around me (I have trouble remembering informaton if I don't use it on a daily basis.....sigh, sigh, sigh....).

Sorry I've been procrastinating on this thread, the large blocks of text scared me away.

lol, well, Stellar I'm not sure you would be jealous of how awful everyone smelled I was hiking the Appalachian Trail. I was shooting for 5 weeks, but kept revising that itinerary......um, that is to say, I wussed out after 2 weeks .

I love natural body musk, though! Just because I'm urbane doesn't mean I'm an ~urban~ city slicker.

I grew up for a portion of my childhood in East Texas and went camping every so often even after that so those kinds of things are very nostalgic for me. I can't wait to go camping again someday.
