How to add your avatar and temperament icon

Postby kipparent on Fri Oct 10, 2008 10:49 am

To add an avatar that will appear on your posts:
- Click on User Control Panel (just below Board index top left of page)
- Click on the "Profile" tab
- select "Edit Avatar"
This allows you to upload an image from your computer. note the maximum image size is 90x90 pixels, and the maximum file size is 6K.

To add or edit your temperament icon, follow the same instructions, except select "Edit Temperament" after clicking on the Profile tab. From here you can select the Temperament icon you wish to display. (That's right... if you want to masquerade as an Artisan, you can :D )

Thanks. Is that really as big as the avatar can be? :(

No need to masquerade. I really AM an Artisan. :D

I understand the pixel size, but the file size is kinda ridiculous. 6KB leaves room for nothing. I literally have not a single image I can upload. I'd say allow at least 10, but preferably 20.

And I've also noticed that your temperament icon doesn't show up unless you have an "acceptable" avatar image in place. Is there any way to change this?

I have repeatedly tried to import my usual avatar. I get the URL in the place for this. But nothing happens. No place to say "apply" or whatever, and the box remains blank. I ever went to great lengths to set up a drop & drag. Nothing. Could you please help?

Pat, whose avatar is at - OK, never mind. It's too big. I will try again.

I will work on this -- I modified the code to minimize the changes to the open source. Now that I have my arms around the code, I will try to make the change.

I increased the pixel size of an avatar acceptable. The size of an avatar file pointed by an URL can be as big as you want. What is a reasonable downloaded avatar size?

Would the 6 kb be able to be increased to about the 60 kb-ish, from memory on some other forums I believe that was about their maximum for avatar.

Thankyou

One thing I've learned is that you really can't compare forums much. Although forums may all look the same on the outside, there are MANY differences on the inside. Since this is a custom forum (I assume), there's probably a bit more leeway. 60kb would be GREAT, but IDK if it's reasonably possible.

I would say a reasonable download file size would be 25kb? A lot of the avatar images I have are about 40, though...but IDK if that's really reasonable.

Ah, that's quite interesting, never realised the tin tacs.

You may have noticed that Dave has changed the temperament icon to reflect the new Keirsey roles. In order to get that to show up, just go to User Control Panel, Profile, Edit Temperament, delete you temperament icon, and reselect it in the gallery and hit submit.
