Plus I have real dogs, I have bred and trained working dogs, (some sold to Russia/US/NZ), they have particular temperaments as do people, it is fascinating. The handling and training of the different temperament working dog is different for each, you go about each temperament differently. In Scott Lithgow's book, "Training and Working Dog"...Don Morris goes into specific particulars of the brain's building blocks, a scientific type explanation of neurons, circuits, excitatory neurons, (talking me here ), activation levels, axonic branches...etc..."observe your dog for commencement of new behaviours to mould him to your wishes..."

He does summaries about the "Norepinephrine and serotonin"-culminating in unbalanced work/rest systems are significant in relation to aggression.

Attachment, conflict, predatory system...(misdirected predatory enthusiasm must be controlled), it's fascinating. "Understanding" the canine is hugely important to handling/training working dogs. So temperament, body language...all those things are hugely important. Also establishing/being the top dog. I am leader of the pack.

Actually, horses, have different temperament types too, people may not realise this, and also requires modification in handling of them, I must say it seems bloodlines from "families" or lines of horses can share the similar temperament, and it is of utmost importance the female, the mare that you breed from, passing on her natural ability (racing wise), return to the mare (her) the best bloodline of the stallion ...it's crucial. There is a science to breeding horses, most important are the genetics...

So, does each breed have certain tendencies to a temperament, or does it vary widely on an individual basis too? I know that different types of dogs do seem to have certain characteristics peculiar to their breed. For instance, labs are very gentle and sweet. Amy's lab doesn't bark at all. I've only heard her bark once when she got hurt.
