Head's Up: How to Change Things When Change Is Hard

Head's Up: How to Change Things When Change Is Hard

Postby keirsey on Tue Jan 19, 2010 7:08 pm

I had the privilege to get a prerelease copy of Switch: How to Change Things When Change Is Hard, by Chip Heath and Dan Heath. They had a notice on that copy, to not quote, blog, or review until January 1, 2010. I didn't, besides I was busy. I am trying to reread it now.

I think it is a good book. I recommend that you guys get the book. It's Simple, Unexpected, Concrete, Credible, Emotional, and it has Stories. As I review their last book. They practice what they preach.

It is going to be released February 16, 2010. They are smart marketers -- and they have the goods.

Now, how does one take it up a notch? How can we use Temperament to add to a very successful model (and bestselling) already? How can you ride that Wave?
Within which edge of chaos are you?

That's a really great recommendation. I'll look into getting that one (have several books on my list, heh, so I'll just add it along with the others).

I like the approach and structure for change this book is presenting. I anticipate this book being very helpful.

[And I need all the help I can get......]

I can't wait. REALLY. I've been blowing money on crap books out of boredom.....this one is considerably more valuable......and I want it now!.......the 16th is just around the corner :!: :P

Are we all gonna post our thoughts when we get the book? :D

Great idea, (what we think, how it helps us).

Supervisor: (Reading my note of book to get; How to change-when change is hard)""Why would you want that!?"

Healer: "Looks a great book, I'm interested in change and how people react about it..."

Supervisor: "Why change, if it's not broken why fix it"- not a question. :D

He is still cross about not being able to buy cloth nappies.

hah! So he's not really thinking about what he's saying? Obviously he could get something out of the book, too.

He knows exactly what he is saying.. :D if other people don't "get it" that's their problem.

He is my foil, to present an idea, a new plan, change in business, new scheme to him is the most rigorous testing I can get for it, (and for me). ;) Where is the emoticon for tongue hanging out-"this is heavy gear"

He doesn't need to read the book...I think? he is meant to be the guardian of change. He does his job very well. :D

I just asked my library to order a copy :ugeek: :ugeek: . I was going to order because you get a 48% discount :geek: if you pre-order, but I'll be away by the time it's released, so I figured I'll just get it free from the library.

That would be an interesting book club, I'll contribute if anyone remembers a month down the road

Bless his sweet little guardian heart.

I think the word "change" strikes more fear in American hearts than the word "war".

The word change is a very very evil word. Ugh.

Changes are very frustrating for me. I've been thinking about the "why's", and I am not even sure I have an answer to that. It's something impulsive, something "reactive", something uncontrollable that wakes up within, screaming "NOOOO". Maybe it is loss of comfort, maybe fear of unknown future or fear of failure. Maybe I think I am going forward, but something wants to delay my progress (the change). :| And I am afraid that I will not be able to control this impulse, until understand its existence/reason :|

Awell.
