Observe an Inventor Rational: Nathan Myhrvold

Postby keirsey on Tue Jul 13, 2010 12:55 pm

Following is a nice interview by Charlie Rose, of Nathan Myhrvold, which I think clearly illustrates the iconic (brilliant) Inventor Rational.

Nathan said his mom tells that he announced "at two years old" he wanted to be a scientist. If you are wondering about some evidence regarding "inborn" temperament, this might be one of the more clearer anecdotes regarding how early Temperament appears.

OMG, he thinks just like I do! I thought I was going to keel over when he said he gives people money who don't know how to solve a problem yet. >:Y!<

that was very interesting. He really transmits enthusiasm for his ideas.

- all of the personality types ending with a P under the MBT system which under KTT are all the 4 Artisans, the Advocate and Healer idealist and the Inventor and Architect Rational... I have found have this extreme spider web kind of curiosity (curiosity in different domains of course), i.e a central area of concern and then it radiates out into many different areas. In Myhrvolds case, he admits it was a problem that he cannot specialize but he has made it work very well. Vindication for all the non-schedulers :)

His philosophy is exactly mine, that you just need to ask the right question and work toward the solution. I've often thought I was crazy for doing that. Everybody tells me, "you need to know how you're going to solve it before you can solve it!" I don't know how I'm going to solve it till I sit down and solve it. Shytigress says I'm like Scotty from Star Trek.

@CB, I can't specialize either. I never will. Like he says, "why do you have to choose?"

actually under MBT I always had a hard time distinguishing between the Extraverted Intuitive Function and the Introverted Intuitive function. But what he does with the dinosaur tail is something that I see as something that people with an EN component to their personality do a lot (in different domains of course). i.e they look at something... in this case a dinosaur tail and it prompts an actual question i.e what is that long tail for and it is related to constellation of different ideas. There is developing a rich pattern of associationsvis a vis the external world. Tacticians typically form associations by handling things.
