It’s been a long time coming

It’s been a long time coming
It’s going to be a long time gone
And it appears to be a long
Appears to be a long
Appears to be a long time
It’s a long, long, long, long time
Before the dawn

What if you had a rock star run a country?

It would be a disaster.

Unless —

Unless  — maybe —

IT WAS AN UNMITIGATED DISASTER BEFORE….

*********************************************************************************************************************

North Korea has been a basket-case of the country, for more than my life-time, ever since the Stalin and the Soviet Union gained control the Northern Korean Peninsula in 1945.  More than 62 years ago.

Kim Jong-Un

However, it took decades to realize that creative desolute destruction. The northern part of the Hermit Kingdom had lots of people and resources to suck the living blood out of: it took Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-Il much effort to ruin such a beautiful countryside. Supreme Leaders into the dark.

It is always darkest before the dawn.

“Kim Jong-il [Kim Jong-Un father] was pathologically indifferent to the misery of his people. By his own lights, life was sweet. He enjoyed cognac, fine cheeses and sushi. He relished wielding power over his people and his ability, through nuclear provocation, to milk and manipulate the outside world. He bombed an airliner. He indulged his passion for cinema by kidnapping a South Korean director. The whole country was his movie set, where he could play God and have the people revere him . He was often portrayed as a platform-heeled, bouffanted buffoon—a cartoon villain. … Not only did he himself die at liberty, but he protected an entire generation of the narrow elite who rose with him. And above all, Kim, the family man, ensured that he passed his movie set to a chosen heir, his pudgy third son, Kim Jong Un.” [Economist]

Nothing to envy.

It is always darkest before the dawn.

Kim Jong Un, most likely an Entertaining Artisan, a Performer Artisan?, the new dictator of North Korea, having inherited the role from his father and grandfather, is having fun — now.  A Northern Korean Rock Star?  Maybe, he has produced a music video.

Kim Jong-un, also romanised as Kim Jong-eun, Kim Jong Un or Kim Jung-eun (born 8 January 1983 or 1984), is the current supreme leader of North Korea, the son of Kim Jong-il and the grandson of Kim Il-sung. He has held the titles of the First Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea, the Chairman of the Central Military Commission, First Chairman of the National Defence Commission of North Korea, the Supreme Commander of the Korean People’s Army, and also a presidium member of the Central Politburo of the Workers’ Party of Korea. He was officially declared the supreme leader following the state funeral for his father, Kim Jong-il on 28 December 2011. He is the third and youngest son of Kim Jong-il and his consort Ko Young-hee. From late 2010, Kim Jong-un was viewed as heir apparent to the leadership of the nation, and following his father’s death, he was announced as the “Great Successor” by North Korean state television. At Kim Jong-il’s memorial service, North Korean Chairman of Congress Kim Yong-nam declared that “Respected Comrade Kim Jong-un is our party, military and country’s supreme leader who inherits great comrade Kim Jong-il’s ideology, leadership, character, virtues, grit and courage”. On 30 December 2011 the Politburo of the Workers’ Party of Korea formally appointed Kim as the Supreme Commander of the Korean People’s Army. On 11 April 2012, the 4th Party Conference elected him to the newly-created post of First Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea. [Wikipedia]

Supreme Commander …  yada yada.  Yea, that’s the long-winded commie speak for  — I am in charge of this place — guys, finally.

Hmm…  Ok, what do we know about the him?  NOT MUCH.  Mostly rumors, nothing real reliable. One should take them with a grain of salt.

He was described as a well integrated and ambitious student who liked to play basketball. However, his grades and attendance rating are reported to have been poor. According to some reports, Jong-un was described by classmates as a shy child who was awkward with girls, indifferent to political issues but distinguished himself in sports, and had a fascination with the American National Basketball Association (NBA) and Michael Jordan. [Wikipedia]

So what now?

Ok, the usual extravagant lifestyle, but it is hard to match his father in that game.

Performers have the special ability, even among the Artisans, to delight those around them with their warmth, their good humor, and with their often extraordinary skills in music, comedy, and drama. Whether on the job, with friends, or with their families, Performers are exciting and full of fun, and their great social interest lies in stimulating those around them to take a break from work and worry, to lighten up and enjoy life. [Please Understand Me II]

Yea, maybe you have seen one dictator, you have seen them all.  — But wait…

Interestedly Un — isn’t shy in letting his wife (what a wife?) carry her designer purse with him in public — with Jong-il you never saw the wifey in public (or mistresses) — they didn’t exist, politically. And….

Kim Jong-un has recently implemented a policy allowing some farmers to keep crops they produce in excess of quota and sell them on the private market.  Shades of Deng Xiaopeng? That capitialist commie?

Poverty is not socialism. To be rich is glorious.
— Deng Xiaopeng

Hey, maybe millions North Koreans won’t be starving to death anymore?

Turn any corner
Hear what the people say
You know that something is going on around here
It surely, surely, surely won’t stand the light of day
And it appears to be a long
Appears to be a long
Appears to be a long
SUCH a long, long time
Before the dawn

So is dawn a comin’?

Remember, it is always darkest before the dawn.  And SUCH a long, long time — before the dawn.

We can wait — or rather we will wait.

Mugabe is getting old and hopefully those in Zimbabwe (Southern Rhodesia) won’t suffer much longer.  Syria supplied by Russia — who knows about that situation, that could be a very long time  — it’s going be a mess either way.   North Korea–China– Ok, some minor business interests I suspect they don’t want to think about it– please go away, but what about the North Korean people?

So is Kim Jong-un likeMerrie Monarch Charles II of Great Britain or maybe like a clueless version of Boris Yeltsin of the Soviet Union.  How close is the dawn?

Or is North Korea to suffer more decades of tyrants and/or nasty clowns like Un’s father.

An Accidental Liberator?  Or just one more dictator.

Only time will tell, for it’s going to be a long time gone.

    1. Hitler and Stalin both suffered from paranoia. I think that Hitler was a Idealist Counselor and Stalin a Rational Mastermind.

      1. Iosif, Comrade Index Card, Stalin was a Supervisor Guardian.  Hitler was a Healer Idealist.  Paranoia is a vague and overused term of psychiatry and psychology.  They used fear (their “paranoia”) to good and chilling effect.  Dictators are “crazy” as a fox.  Methinks there is method to this madness.

      2. I think that Hitler was an Idealist Counselor rather than an Idealist Healer because he was very directive. About Stalin, I hardly agree that he was expressive. If not Rational Mastermind, then Guardian Inspector.

It looks like there isn’t going to be any change. It is still going to be a long time gone. Kim Jong Un is going for another 60 years of misery for his subjects. Nothing to envy. It will be a continuing disaster, hundreds of thousand malnourish for whole lives and generations to come. Far worse than 1984.

  2. How could Hitler possibly have been an Idealist Counselor given the atrocities he committed? It would have to be the greatest paradox of all time.
