Born This Way?

Lady Gaga“Lady Gaga was born that way.

You can’t explain that“.
– Bill O’Reilly

Yes, we can —  Bill.

Born this way.

What way was she born this way?

She has her own vision: well composed, choreographed, visual, performed, and promoted. Born this way. And the visual is mesmerizingly good and evil. Something definite, almost tactile, encompassing all the senses.

Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta. Born this way.

I left my entire family, got the cheapest apartment I could find, and ate shit until somebody would listen.”

Inspired by glam rock artists like David Bowie, Elton John and Queen, as well as pop singers such as Madonna, Michael Jackson, and Amy Winehouse, she is well-recognized for her outré sense of style in fashion, in performance and in her music videos. Her contributions to the music industry have garnered her numerous achievements including five Grammy Awards, among twelve nominations; two Guinness World Records; and the estimated sale of fifteen million albums and fifty-one million singles worldwide. Billboard named her both the Artist of the Year in 2010 and the top selling artist of 2010; ranking her as the 73rd Artist of the 2000s decade. She has been included in Time magazine’s annual Time 100 list of the most influential people in the world as well as Forbes’ list of the 100 Most Powerful and Influential celebrities in the world. Forbes also placed her at number seven on their annual list of the World’s 100 Most Powerful Women.

When I’m writing music, I’m thinking about the clothes I want to wear on stage. It’s all about everything altogether—performance art, pop performance art, fashion. For me, it’s everything coming together and being a real story that will bring back the super-fan. I want to bring that back. I want the imagery to be so strong that fans will want to eat and taste and lick every part of us.”

It is not surprising that Stefani no longer wants to be called by her given name — the instant she saw an incorrectly auto spell-corrected text message that changed Queen’s “Radio Gaga” to “Lady Gaga” she said “That’s it… Don’t refer to me as Stefani ever again.”

Lady Gaga is –

a Promoter (ESTP). Yes, we can Bill.

In a word, they are men and women of action. When a Promoter is present, things begin to happen: the lights come on, the music plays, the games begin. Clever and full of fun, Promoters live with a theatrical flourish which makes even the most routine events seem exciting.

What way? Born that way. It’s called Temperament.

  1. I could tell Lady Gaga was a promoter type, just like Madonna. I don’t think she’s exceptionally talented musically (MO), but she is exceptionally talented at promoting herself. As an INTJ, I’m not buying the hype, ha!

  2. An an ESTP (Promoter) I totally support that we “are men and women of action. When a Promoter is present, things begin to happen.” We live in the moment; spontaneously turning on a dime is fun!

I’m not fully up to speed on Lady Gaga, although from what I have seen, she does remind me of Madonna. My ESTP daughter is thinks Lady Gaga is the bomb!

Perhaps Bill O’Reilly needs to learn about Type and Temperament?

    1. I, David Mark Keirsey, have typed her. The typing is based on my experience and my observations of her (thru TV) and Wikipedia, for what it is worth.

  3. She’s ESFP. Her act screams the “look at me, look at me” attitude of an ESFP. She’s a performer at heart, but she’s not as strategic and cool-headed as Madonna (classic example of ESTP). If any attention were paid to the cognitive functions at all, one could make a strong case that she is an dominant Se user (live-in-the-moment extroverted sensing type) with Fi (the “championing” introverted feeling function) as her auxiliary function. Gaga is very much involved in adhering to her own values and interests which is typical of an Fi user. Combined with Se (extroverted sensing) this allows her to value a “do whatever feel right” hedonistic attitude to her ethics. Remember how she championed gay rights and endlessly campaigned for the repeal of DADT? This smacks of the typical responses of an Fi-user.

  4. ..or we can base our temperament typing upon what she actually says and does, observation, that what she does, what she does best. Toughminded Lady Gaga, some? “Everybody wants to be famous but nobody wants to play the game. I’m from New York. I will kill to get what I need.” -Lady Gaga

    1. “Everybody wants to be famous but nobody wants to play the game. I’m from New York. I will kill to get what I need.” -Lady Gaga

She has a penchant for overstatement. Her championing of gay rights and victims against bullying suggest otherwise. I did alot of research on GaGa, often comparing her to Madonna. Looking at it closely, the similarities between the two is mostly surface. Tough-mindedness or singularity in purpose is not always regulated to “thinking”. It’s a repeated, but wholly mistaken stereotype, get it out of your head.

  5. Fearless with ambition: “I had this dream, and I really wanted to be a star. And I was almost a monster in the way that I was really fearless with my ambitions”-Lady Gaga.

  6. Driven, tough minded, focussed on her ambitions, she wants it ALL: “What’s most remarkable about Lady GaGa then is not the fact she’s only 22 and an international star, or her elaborate eye make-up – of which she has a suitcaseful in her dressing room – but her bullet-proof ambition.

“I’d like an exhibit in a museum and five hit records in a row and the greatest pop show on the planet,” she wonders out loud. “I want everything that every woman wants – I want it all.

“I don’t know what it’s like not to have ambition – people who don’t have ambition, I don’t understand them.

“I think it’s pretty scary to be mediocre.

“It’s my belief that ‘the fame’ is something inside of you. Everyone might not know who you are but you can certainly make people want to know who you are and it’s all about having conviction for your ideas and having passion for something great in your life.”

    1. On a another note, yes I observed her qoutes, what she does, how she presents herself and the contradictions that lie therein between the persona and the person, and I still reached the same conclusion. ESFP.

  7. …she aint no soft, warm, fuzzy Performer. That is Promoter Steel, bulldozer blood flowing through those talented veins.

  8. What Type was Amy Winehouse? and the Artist Prince ?
Im really not sure of these two !!

    Greetings
    Lilly

    1. Winehouse was an Artisan. Her type was probably Performer Artisan. I don’t know as much for Prince (and I forgot), probably a Perfomer Artisan too — could be a Composer Artisan.
